After Hurricane Sandy, the 15-year-old nonprofit Red Hook Initiative “was the go-to place” for food, water, and making calls, Shaquana Cooke, tells BRIC TV. She’s a facilitator in the organization’s Local Leaders program, which trains residents of the Red Hook Houses in responding to emergency situations like Sandy.
In this BRIC TV video, which aired as part of the “By Land and By Sea” episode of BRIC TV’s “Going In with Brian Vines,” hear from Cooke, her fellow facilitator, Tevina Willis, and Bryan Walsh, a reporter from The Bridge, on how the community in Red Hook – more than half of whom live in the Red Hook Houses – is getting ready for the next natural disaster.
